Arbitrage with Pionex · Practical guide
If you have USD waiting for a buying opportunity, Spot–Futures arbitrage lets you seek funding income with reduced exposure to market rises and falls.
Coordinating both positions requires correct execution, maintaining the hedge, and closing properly. That is why we use a bot that automates this strategy. This guide focuses on Pionex arbitrage, available under Earn → Arbitrage.
How it works: two offsetting positions
Both positions open at the same time when the bot starts: a Spot purchase (upward exposure, or long) and an equivalent short in Perpetual Futures. For example, 0.01 BTC bought in Spot and a 0.01 BTC short.
If one gains from a price movement, the other loses approximately the same amount. This is a neutral position: with an ideal hedge, the initial capital neither gains nor loses from that rise or fall. Funding is added separately.
If the positions offset each other, where does the profit come from?
From the funding fee. When the rate is positive, long positions pay short positions. Because the arbitrage strategy maintains a short hedged by the Spot purchase, it can receive that payment.
Pionex distributes its arbitrage product’s earnings in cycles of 8 hours. The contracts used may have different intervals: the product groups those receipts for distribution.
What APR means
APR stands for Annual Percentage Rate, meaning annual percentage rate:
- A = Annual: annual.
- P = Percentage: percentage.
- R = Rate: rate.
APR expresses an annualized return and changes with funding and market conditions.
If 1,000 USD earned 10% annually for a full year, it would generate approximately 100 USD, without reinvestment. This is a reference to understand the percentage, not a fixed or promised return.
To track your results, look at the earnings actually credited and your order history. This lets you compare what it is generating with how long you have been using it.
The arbitrage fund’s protection
Pionex states that its arbitrage product has a protection fund covering losses from negative funding and certain losses from extreme Spot–Futures price differences when opening or closing. The fund is financed by a share of the profits; the percentage and conditions depend on each product variant.
Hedging between positions reduces price risk, and the fund adds protection in those specific cases. Returns remain variable, and platform and stablecoin risks remain.
Why we use Pionex
It is our preferred option for this strategy because of its automation, easy access to payment records, and management within one platform.
