CHAPTER SUMMARY
The idea in one minute
In a pair such as BTC/USD, BTC is the base currency and USD is the quote currency: the price shows how many dollars one bitcoin costs. Understanding the pair’s order also helps you define the unit in which you want to measure and accumulate your results.
What to remember
- The first currency is the base; the second expresses its price.
- Gaining units of an asset and gaining dollar value do not always coincide.
- Choosing a measurement unit prevents comparing unlike results.
Put it into practice
Read three pairs and complete this sentence: one unit of the first currency costs this amount of the second.
